Never was a review product more joyfully received in our house than the Cognikids Sensory Teething bib, Sooth, was.

When I was asked to review a CogniKids product, my initial thought was that my toddler is too old for their products. Cognikids then suggested their teething bib. Since Number Three is still getting teeth, I thought it was worth a try. He’s grown tired of our other teething helpers.

When the parcel arrived, it was perfectly timed. Number Three was in the throws of his canines coming through. As soon as I removed the bib from the packaging, he grabbed it from me and began biting down on it. He knew exactly what it was for. I took a few snaps with my phone. As you can see, his cheeks are flushed and he’s not looking too happy.

Features

The reversable bib is of the triangular type, with snap fasteners to hold it in place. There are two fasteners, making it suitable for young babies starting to teeth as well as for toddlers like mine.

The teething ring is small but still sufficient for my toddler’s mouth and is made of soft, food grade silicone.

The material, 95% bamboo and 5% spandex is lovely and soft, even before washing. Speaking of which, I washed the bib at 40°C and it came out fine – no shrinkage or change in colour or feel. I saw later that the recommendation on the packaging is to wash it at 30°C.

So, how did we find it?

Two weeks later, Number Three’s canines have just broken through. It has been tough on him, but having the CogniKids teething bib around his neck helped.

I will admit that some days he tore it off or wouldn’t even let me put in round his neck. On others, he was happy to have it and be able to chew as and when he needed it.

Quality-wise, I am impressed. The bib has been worn during meals, at times. It has been in the bottom of the buggy, in my handbag and been trampled on by mucky wellies when it got dropped on the hall floor. Despite all that, it hasn’t any stains or wear and tear to show for it.

The bib comes in a a range of colours and the retail price is €14.99. I would be happy to pay  that price and for the following reasons:

• The bib was designed in Ireland
• It is produced in “an ethically audited factory in China”, according to the packaging
• It doubles as a reversable neckerchief / bandana bib
• It is attached to the child, so there is less chance of mislaying it compared to a hand-held teething ring
• It washes well in a regular wash cycle
