You may remember that back in January, the day after my birthday to be exact, I posted My 40-By-40 Reading List. In the two months that have passed, I have managed to read one book. One.
That said, it was eight hundred and sixty something pages long and I really enjoyed it. The Goldfinch by Donna Tartt.
I won’t go into the full story here. What I loved was that it didn’t feel like fiction. I found myself totally engrossed in the story. The level of detail was excellent. Not so much as to make you wonder why the author bothered, but enough that you could really imagine the scenes.
A bonus for me was all the talk of art and furniture renovation techniques and the scenes set in Amsterdam, a favourite cty of mine.
Wolf Hall is what I have now moved on to. I have a feeling it will be a while before I report back on that one.
